Bania was considered to be a keeper of clean life-giving water and health, since it somehow strengthened and set one’s vital energy on the right track. Bania was a symbol of overcoming all dark and evil matters that could surround people in their mortal lives. Later it became an embodiment of hearth and hospitality.
The arrangement of Russian bania strikingly differs from others. Russian bania was always built from wood and was deprived of luxury and superfluities. Everything served health improving. Visiting bania and having rest afterwards was highly ceremonial among peasants as well as among noblemen all over Russia.
