CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The Scientific Committee of ICDS 2006 invites all interested individuals to submit abstracts to be considered for presentation which will be grouped according to the subject categories listed below.
Abstracts will be divided into following categories for review and program purposes.
Presenters should select one subject category.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
Abstracts must be submitted through the ICDS 2006 website www.icds2006.com or by E-mail: mail@icds2006.com Submission via on-line system on the website is highly recommended. Do not submit abstracts by fax. Please provide the corresponding author contact information, topic category and presentation preference.
Final deadline for abstract submission is April 1, 2006.
Failure to do so will result in exclusion from the program. Submissions not confirming to established submission guidelines will not be reviewed.
Only abstracts written in English will be accepted, may be subject to editorial revisions.
ABSTRACT FORMAT
- MS Word for Windows
- Font : Times New Roman only
- Size : 10-point only
- Space: single space
- Content:
- Pictures, graphs, and table can be included.
- The abstract limit is 350 words including the title and authors.
- Abstract will be published as submitted; i.e. any error appearing in the submitted abstract will appear in the published Abstracts Book.
Title
Title should appear in bold. Title should be brief and clearly indicate the essence of the presentation.
Authors
Full given names should precede the family name. Omit degrees (M.D., Ph.D.) and titles (Prof., Dr. etc.). If a co-author's affiliation is different from the presenting author's, please identify in superscript numerals. For paper submissions, place an asterisk (*) after the name of the author presenting the paper.
Institution
On a separate line type the name of institution, city and country.
Body Text
Omit all names and geographical references in the body of the abstract. Leave an empty line before typing the body. Organize contents as follows:
- Background : State the background or reasons for performing the study
- Methods : Methods, materials and analytical procedures used
- Results : Summary of the results in sufficient detail to support conclusion
- Conclusions : Conclusions reached

The early deadline for abstracts submission is fixed in order to provide you with time enough to obtain visa. Abstracts can be submitted after this date but getting visa cannot be guaranteed due to the possible delays in making the official invitation.

DANIEL KALMANSON'S AWARD
Daniel Kalmanson's Award (DK Award) will be given to a selected abstract, which is submitted by the candidate who meets the criteria for the award.
Poster presenters who satisfy the criteria below can apply for the Daniel Kalmanson's Award Competition.
Daniel Kalmanson was a pioneer in the field of Doppler echocardiography, contributing to the development of this technique its clinical application and the physiological interpretation of the measurements made using this approach.
Criteria Required for the Daniel Kalmanson's Award
- Candidates must be under 35-years-old to compete.
- No specific citizenship requirements
- Candidates are usually MD, but they can be scientists, physicists, medical engineers, or physiologists, etc.; as far as their field of interest is focused on research of the cardiovascular system through the development of ultrasound technology.
- Candidates must submit an abstract according to the guidelines required by the Chairman of the meeting, and the abstract must be received by the organizing committee before the deadline.
- The objective of the research may be clinical in nature or basic and fundamental
- Candidates must submit an original abstract on his/her research that has not been published or presented in another international meeting, or in one of the main congresses held in the United States, such as AHA, ACC, ASE.
- Candidates must be the first authors and the presenters of the abstract. Co-authors are allowed.
- Candidates must not present more than one paper as a first author. Previous award winners may not apply for the DK Award in subsequent years.
The Process of Selection
The abstracts competing for the DK Award will be selected by scientists of the Scientific Committee. The final selection may involve four to six abstracts. Finalists will receive individual notice from the Organizing Committee at the time of the general decision of acceptance or rejection of the abstracts. During the meeting, a special session, "the DK Award session" will be chaired by a panel of distinguished researchers, scientists, or clinicians representing a wide spectrum of the medical science and trends of research for cardiovascular disease and appointed by the chairman and by the scientific committee.
The Criteria for Evaluation
- The scientific merit of the abstract
- The originality and quality of the research
- The presentation of the abstract
Prize
The decision made by the panel, and the name of the winner will be announced at the end of the session or at the closing ceremony of the meeting, according to the Chairman's decision.
The winner will receive the prize the amount of which will be decided by the ICDS Board. An official certificate signed by the ICDS President and ICDS officers will be also granted to the winner.
PUBLICATION OF ABSTRACTS
Abstracts selected for the Daniel Kalmanson's Award will be published in the European Journal of Echocardiography. The other abstracts of the Congress are supposed to be published in the on-line journal Cardiovascular Ultrasound. The separate Abstract Book with all selected papers of the Congress will be issued.
